First PH-NZ Taekwondo Collaboration held in Wellington
The first ever collaboration between the Philippines and New Zealand in the sport and martial art of Taekwondo was held in Wellington on 28 June 2026, in the form of a training seminar conducted by Philippine National Taekwondo Team Coaches Carlos Jose Padilla V and Rodolfo Reyes Jr.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy in Wellington, the event brought together the Philippine Taekwondo Association and Taekwondo New Zealand to help New Zealand Taekwondo practitioners and athletes level up their skills. The seminar also commemorated the 60th Anniversary of Philippines-New Zealand Diplomatic Relations this year.

During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Kira Christianne Azucena said that the collaboration represents the strong people-to-people links between the Philippines and New Zealand, as well as their common passion for sports. She said the Philippines hopes to further deepen its engagement with New Zealand in sports cooperation.
