Session 7 explores the centuries old linkages that began with Magellan’s crossing of the Pacific and blossomed under the shared colonial experience under the Iberian Powers. Often referred to as Asia’s Latin Country, the Philippines continues to have strong cultural and historical ties with its Latin American brethren.

Trade and Cross-Cultural Encounters in “Nuevo Mundo”, Dr. Marya Svetlana Camacho of the University of Asia and the Pacific, Dr. Paulo Roberto Pereira (to be read by Dr. Paulo Knauss) of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Dr. Jaime Rosenblitt of the Biblioteca Nacional de Chile, and Dr. Ezequiel Ramoneda of National University of La Plata will discuss the extensive trade and culture exchanges that occurred in the “Nueva Mundo”.
