As the Philippine Embassy in Wellington and the Philippine Consulate General in Auckland continue to pursue priority collaborative efforts for direct flights between the Philippines and New Zealand, Ambassador Virginia H. Benavidez and Honorary Consul General Paulo B. Garcia met with the second group of Philippine Airlines (PAL) executives, namely, Mr. Gerardo P. Santos, Manager – Administrative & Support Services Division, Cabin Services Sub-Department, Mr. Ernesto L. Mabunga, Manager – Technical Support, Airport Operations Department, Ms. Raizza Duterte, Manager – Security Programs and Standards Office, Mr. Kristian Edison C. Flora, Contract Management Associate, Mr. Glen G. Manata, Supervising Officer, Systems Standards and Procedures and Mr. Michael Angelou C. Gutierrez, Flight Planning Specialist, Central Flight Dispatch – Integrated Operations Control Center and Mr. Peppy Purdomo, South East Asia/India Development Manager, Auckland Airport on 28 June 2015 at the Stamford Plaza Hotel in Auckland.

Discussions focused on the operational requirements for PAL as it launches its flights in December 2015. Ambassador Benavidez and Honorary Consul General Garcia also shared with them the increasing numbers of and preference for Filipinos especially in the Christchurch rebuild and reconstruction, dairy, health care sectors and hospitality services, greater influx of students, migrants and professionals into New Zealand and the upward and active movements and visits of tourists, businessmen, ministerial and senior officials and other stakeholders from both the Philippines and New Zealand. The Philippines and New Zealand are one in the paramount importance of establishment of direct flights that would serve as key enablers to greater trade, investment, tourism, education, economic and people-to-people linkages and movement between the two countries.

The PAL website has already put up its Flight Search Facility for the schedule of flights and airfares for its direct flight between Manila-Auckland-Manila with one-hour technical stop-over in Cairns starting on 2 December 2015.

The second group of PAL executives, just like the first ones, deeply appreciated the assistance and support of the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Consulate General in Auckland for the much awaited opening of direct flights between the Philippines and New Zealand. Ambassador Benavidez and Honorary Consul General Garcia will be meeting the next set of PAL officials in the coming months as they undertake and complete the necessary preparations, documentation, coordination and groundwork for the start of the Manila-Auckland-Manila flights in December 2015.
